GEOEXTRACTION:
Non objective paintings inspired from geological information

"Geoextraction" impetus: Some realist painters heed the siren call for the creation of non-objective paintings. It is a logical progression, for artists, to go from comprehensive imagery to distilled or abstracted representations. I’d always thought that if I were an abstract painter, I would paint pictures of rocks. For my syndicated llama excursion of 2011 I prepared canvases to paint alla prima plein air abstracts. In earlier years, shadowless blanched midday conditions made for perfunctory landscape paintings, therefore, I didn’t paint in those hours. Also, being miles in the backcountry allowed for little but the repair of gear, reading, collecting firewood, moving camp etc. Now, however, the midday period would be used to develop abstract vignettes as well as fulfill the desire to express, simply. Today, the techniques used in the creation of the Geoextractions have been adopted to energize my representational paintings.. Abstraction and realism inform one another in art as in nature.
“Each part of a great painting should in itself be a great
painting.... In every landscape should reside jewels of abstract
art waiting to be discovered”.
Melissa Brown
